Bring the joy of Italian cooking to your kitchen with 100 classic and incredibly delicious Italian family favorites, from the star of Laura in the Kitchen.

When Laura Vitale moved to the United States from her native Italy as a teenager, she was homesick—not just for her family, but for her beloved nonna’s cooking. The slow-cooked Sunday sauces loaded with pork ribs and tender braised beef (and plenty of red wine), the quick pan-fried breaded chicken cutlets destined to be Parmesan’d, the frittata de maccheroni that she’d tuck in a knapsack for beachside picnics . . . and so began a quest to re-create Nonna’s delicious legacy in Laura’s New Jersey kitchen.

Ever since, Laura has spent countless hours on the phone with Nonna to learn her secrets for the crispiest fried Cacio e Pepe Aranini, Zia Mimma’s Focaccia Barese (mashed potatoes are the key to its fluffy texture), decadent four-cheese baked ziti, a Sunday supper go-to of Roasted Chicken and Potatoes with Herby Lemon Salsa, and a semolina cake to end all yellow cakes, topped with heaps of limoncello-soaked strawberries. Decades of Sunday suppers, holiday meals, and get-it-done-fast weeknight dinners have perfected the flavors and techniques that represent the essence of Laura’s Italy.

    Cookbook
I purchased this Italian cookbook after I saw it displayed on my daughter’s countertop. What a great cookbook! I love the recipes in here. I’ve made many recipes including the spaghetti aglio e olio di nonna, fagioli a zuppa, pasta alla norma, pasta alla nerano-ish and many more. Laura Vitale’s instructions are simple and easy to follow and the end result is deliciousness.

    You won’t be disappointed!
I love everything about this cookbook. I have been following Laura since she started her YouTube channel. Over the years she has taught me many things and one of those things is that a good meal can heal the soul. In her introduction she references how her Nonna would say “There is no answer that food doesn’t provide”. Many of Laura’s recipes have already become staples in my home. They are meals my nieces and nephews request when they just want to “come home” because those meals and the smells from them bring comfort. Laura’s recipes are easy to follow which makes them 10x better. Cooking has been an escape for me for a long time, just getting lost in making a meal and tuning out the real world for a bit… more so this last year and half than ever. If you’re reading this and you’re on the fence about making a purchase don’t, you won’t be disappointed. Laura if you see this, Thank you, not just for this cookbook but for the courage to share yourself with us over the years, for being unapologetically you, for always sharing your authentic self, for sharing the ups and downs of life, for crying with us, laughing with us and reminding us that there is nothing a plate of good pasta and some crusty bread can’t cure. My internet sister I’m so proud of all you’ve accomplished! This is just the beginning.

    Amazing!
Oh my goodness! What am amazing cookbook. After years of loving Italian food I finally decided to order an Italian cookbook. After quite a search I got this one. After it arrived I intended to flip through it but ended up spending a couple of hours going though all of the wonderful recipes. Made the first one that night and my husband said it was so good he would have ordered it in a restaurant. Have made a number of different dishes since and each one seems to be better then the last. All the personal comments just make this book all the more wonderful. There are a few ingredients that I had to get that I don’t usually stock but it has certainly been worth it. Made one dish with eggplant and after eyeing it suspiciously, my husband admitted he had never tasted eggplant before (can you imagine!) and he loved it. If you like to cook and eat even more, this cookbook is a must!

I did not know anything about Laura Vitale before I came across this book and now I’m in love with her. Her recipes are simple, but tasty and not out of reach of anyone who wants to cook good authentic Italian food. Every single page you open you want to cook. There are no ingredients that are hard to source. Majority of them being from your local supermarket or deli. I do menus from my cookbooks for a week at a time and she is definitely up the top of the list of books to cook from. Photos are enticing and the recipes simple. If you want something to add to your collection, I can thoroughly recommend this book.

LOVED IT..CAN’T WAIT TO COOK FROM IT..

  11. Marie

I absolutely enjoyed reading the book. I feel like she really succeeded at creating an atmosphere and what a touching homage to Nonna. Cooking to me is more about the traditions, the lifestyle, what food means to people and how it represents them. This book was very rich in that sense. I made a few recipes and loved everything. The recipes are easy for someone who cooks regularly. The quality of the ingredients play a huge part in the simple recipes. What is common food in Italy can be pricy in Canada but the beautiful recipes can make you travel to Italy and it’s always cheaper than restaurants. One of my favourite recipe book. Highly recommend!
